Privacy Policy
Last Updated: February 2026At TypeWisp, we believe that your data is yours alone. We built TypeWisp specifically to ensure you have a safety net for your typed words without ever compromising your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our "Local-First" approach to your data.
1. Data Collection & Storage (The Short Version)
We do not collect, transmit, share, or sell any of your personal data. Period.
TypeWisp operates entirely on your local machine. We do not have servers, databases, or analytics tracking systems that receive the text you type or the websites you visit.
2. How TypeWisp Works Locally
- Local Input Logging: When you type into free-text fields (like textareas or contenteditable elements) on supported web pages, TypeWisp temporarily saves that text to your browser's local IndexedDB.
- No Cloud Syncing: Your saved text is never sent over the internet or backed up to the cloud. It lives exclusively on your hard drive inside your browser profile.
- AES-GCM Encryption: Before the text is even saved to your local database, it is encrypted using the AES-GCM encryption standard.
3. Algorithmic Filtering (What We Ignore)
TypeWisp actively tries not to save sensitive data. The extension uses built-in heuristic algorithms to detect context. TypeWisp automatically ignores and will not record inputs when:
- The field type is `password`.
- The field has an autocomplete attribute pointing to passwords, credit cards (`cc-number`, `cc-csc`), or Social Security Numbers.
- The field's name, id, or adjacent labels strongly indicate it is a sensitive field (e.g., "cvv", "ssn", "card number").
Note: While our filters are robust, you remain responsible for the data you type into the browser. Always use discretion when typing highly sensitive information on public or shared computers.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
TypeWisp is designed as a short-term safety net, not a permanent archive.
- 24-Hour Auto-Delete: By default, any saved input data is automatically and permanently deleted from your local storage after 24 hours.
- Manual Wipe: You can instantly wipe all stored history at any time by clicking the "Clear History" button in the extension popup.
- Domain Blacklisting: You can explicitly block TypeWisp from running on specific websites via the "Sleep" toggle. Any existing history for that domain is deleted the moment it is blacklisted.
5. Third-Party Access
Because your data never leaves your device, we have no data to share with third parties, advertisers, or law enforcement.
6. Changes to this Privacy Policy
If we add new features that change how local data is handled, we will update this policy. However, our core commitment to absolute, serverless privacy will never change.
